the only difference i could really see is where they are made. I kept the Alpha because i got a great deal on it, but i wouldn't have minded the Beta either. Both bomber shells that will last many years. I also have some of their softshell stuff and it has been great. You usually can't go wrong with arcteryx (but you pay for it).
