Romney v Hall
I don’t think it’s as straight forward as it seems and has a lot to do with two big external factors - 1) increasingly poor pass pro and 2) play calling.

As injuries have accumulated and as we’ve played teams with better athletes in the front 4, pass pro has become increasingly poorer. Hall has better elusiveness when healthy (remember early season comparisons to Russell Wilson and Mahomes?). But he seems to have lost some of that after the injury. Actually showing some concerning lack of pocket awareness the last two games. I think that has led to some of his inaccurate throws. Hall is also a rhythm passer- he needs to have a string of passing plays to heat up, get his timing, confidence and decisiveness. He’s been more hesitant since coming back from injury no question, especially early in games. He has some brilliant stretches later in the Boise and Baylor games when he seemed to get that rhythm. I fear some of that is actually because of coach instructions and play calling. Certainly seemed that way today. Play calling never emphasized the pass game and Hall never seemed to get in the groove.

On the other hand, for those same reasons, I think Baylor is more instinctual and some of those play calling or rhythm issues wouldn’t have impacted his game as much. I think he would have been more productive than Hall today. But I don’t think he would have fared any better v Boise or Baylor given the pass pro issues. Recall though that Romney also took some bad sacks (-17) as well. Hall had 640 yards in-house two games against good defenses. Baylor is more decisive, but he’s also more of a one-read guy. You can see from his eyes he rarely gets to the second option and with a large sample size against better DBs would likely have have some bad INTs. He does have a nicer touch on his deep ball though and now that Puka is healthy that could be deadly if he hits him in stride.
