Hall's passing yesterday from the pocket was completely off. No wonder BYU went run heavy. I can't help but wonder how this offense could look with Romney out there. Guys are open. The offense will Hall has potential but is just too inconsistent.
Also, the linebackers are not good tacklers. Holy crap they whiff a lot. BYU could have gotten off the field on defense a couple of times had they just made standard tackles.
On a positive note, the 3 down linemen seemed to work pretty well in stopping the run (although a better run offense would have probably done much better). Other than the missed tackles, I thought the defense/scheme was pretty decent. BYU blitzed a little more and was able to get more pressure than we are accustomed to seeing (still not great but better).
Overall, I still think Romney should be the starting QB and it's not because Hall is a bad QB but Romney just looks so much more accurate. I think his passing also opens up the running game a lot more. Hall though will keep starting unless or until he gets re-injured.
One other thing, I wish BYU could tackle more like Washington State. There were so many running plays where Allgieir had big gains on the horizon but Wazzu linebackers or DL were just barely able to get his ankles and trip him up. BYU LBers could learn from this as they tend to go higher for the tackles.
Overall a win is a win but next week versus UVA will be tough. Can BYU get red zone stops and/or turnovers versus UVA's offense? Can BYU's offense keep up? I don't see BYU winning if they can't score in the 30s - something a Hall-led offense has failed to do.
