Big difference in what you're saying and what I'm saying and have said
I'm saying the ultimate goal of the program is to have special seasons every so often. I never said, nor do I think anyone being realistic or reasonable would expect BYU to be even top 25 every season. However, every so often BYU will have enough talent on both sides of the ball to have a chance at a special year. For that to happen, though, we need really good coaching and we need coaches that strive for best practices.

As a member of the MWC and as an independent, BYU's schedules have been easy enough that with better coaching and a little bit of luck, BYU possibly could have had better seasons and even perhaps a BCS or NY6 bowl game. It usually coincides with an experienced QB and a decently competitive defense. In 2006, BYU was really close to going undefeated. In 2012, with even an average offense, BYU had such a good defense that that could have been a special season. If Taysom had not got injured in 2015, that offense was going to be very good and BYU had a shot. Last year if BYU would have been able to play their normal schedule, who knows how things would have gone. Just saying, that expecting a special season is not really all that crazy as BYU has been a lot closer than some people want to acknowledge.

Furthermore, my complaints aren't really about BYU's losses this year as opposed to what are going to cause future losses. This year, I can say "well, BYU is pretty young and they are winning a lot of close games so that's a good sign" but I also think it's fair to say "Tuiaki's defense is still too vanilla" or "the lack in past recruiting is really hurting BYU's ceiling." Again, it's not all about the game that just happened but BYU's ceiling, ie, can BYU put it all together? Can the coaches continue to improve?
