Here’s what has to happen for BYU to make the guaranteed rate bowl in Phoenix.
I won’t be able to make it to Shreveport so this is my best shot at making the bowl game.

1. Big 12 only qualifies five teams for bowl games (or six teams while one goes to the CFP). They have 3 eligible teams already. TTU and ISU are one game away from qualifying, UT and KSU are 4-3, and WVU and TCU are 3-4.

If Oklahoma makes the CFP and KSU or Texas loses enough we could take the spot. The KSU win over TTU really hurt our chances.

2. The B1G only qualifies 6 teams (or 7-8 if they get 1-2 teams in the CFP). They have 4 eligible teams already. PSU and Minnesota are one game away, MD, WI, and Purdue are 4-3.

Unless two teams make the CFP I think they fill their spots. And probably even if they do.

Another option if the contract was well written for BYU would be one of the PAC bowls. They have one eligible team, three more with five wins, one at 4-3 and one at 4-4 with a tough remaining schedule. If Oregon wins out they have a real shot at the CFP with their win over Ohio. So there’s a reasonable chance the holiday or LA bowl (or maybe even the Las Vegas bowl) have an opening. Any of which I would go to.

All this to say I hope BYU goes somewhere other than Louisiana for their bowl game even though they probably won’t.
