You got that wrong. He didn’t want to go because a segment of the fan base…
…wanted him to go, he always said he wasn’t going to be a lifer like Lavell was and said he figured he was good for 10 yrs and ended up going after 11 yrs. He had interviewed with at least 2 other schools earlier than 2015 but turned one down and either didn’t get offered the other or turned it down as well (UCLA and Colorado).

In leaving BYU he wasn’t going to go to just any school and he sort of had it in mind that he wanted to go to a school that was about something more than just being a football school, like a service academy or a school like UVA. So at 11 yrs he got an offer to one of the few schools he would leave BYU for and he took it.
