Part of being in good academic standing, in addition to having acceptable grades, is having enough credits to be progressing towards a degree. I don't know if they are on semesters or quarters at Oregon, but I'm assuming that he did summer school (most scholarship freshmen now do summer school). If he transfers to BYU for winter semester, and does Spring/Summer, then he should probably have plenty credits to be eligible.
