Had they lost, and with ASU losing to OSU the same night, the ranking would be more important for a possible backdoor invite to the Rose Bowl provided Utah beats CU and then OR beats Utah in the CCG. Now that they beat OR last week they go to the Rose Bowl only if they win the CCG. If they lose in the CCG it's the Alamo Bowl regardless of the CFP ranking. Of course every team wants to be ranked as high as possible, but at this point their ranking doesn't really impact bowl options and no one will remember rankings below 10-12 anyway.
