It’s not the same for every team but byu isn’t alone
However I think missions exacerbates the problem for BYU. BYU hasn’t figured out the formula to avoid injuries. Look at a team like Utah for example, they seem to rarely have injuries and when they do it’s usually for a game or two
Even their return missionaries don’t seem to get her as often as BYUs though they increasingly have few contributing RMs
