athletics. I still think that decision was a mistake. The argument usually set forth is that more students can be educated with the money BYUI and BYUH spent on sports, which is central to the mission of the Church.

With that logic, then kill BYU athletics altogether. Doubtless BYU spends multi millions of dollars on sports programs, which could be spent on educating more people in better facilities.

But wait.The PR BYU gets is probably one of the better missionary tools the Church has, which is also part of the Church's mission. Oh, sports at the other BYUs also provided scholarships to student athletes who might not otherwise have been able to be educated in a gospel environment. Oh, the other BYUs also provided avenues into athletics for late bloomers. Jason Buck and others come to mind. Grrr.
