The books are so incredibly boring. I have slogged through them twice and it is so hard to keep going. They are
really mediocre writing. Bits and pieces of genius mixed with hundreds and hundred of pages of poorly written, repetitive writing.
Every metaphor had to be driven home with a sledge hammer. Every joke about someone not understanding women repeated 1000 times, each time more ham handed than the last. No subtlety, no grace.
The show is better just by being shorter. Anything else it gets right is a win. And it is pretty good. So it ends up being way better than the books.
