He was a really great man. He was my dad's age but BYU fans were in short supply in that ward, so we always chatted football and basketball. After I moved away, he was stricken with Parkinson's and cancer in recent years.

I went back to visit family and dropped in on the ward last summer. He saw me and rolled down his window and I got in the car. We chatted about nothing but BYU sports for 20 minutes. I cherish those friendships!
