I know someone who makes about $500K a year who
could easily make $2 million+ but he loves what he is doing, where he is at and that pace he lives and has no desire to disrupt that status quo.

I also know 5-10 people who could have made 2-5x more at another job and place but have never regretted not taking those opportunities because they didn't want the pressures, family impact, location and lifestyle that came with it. People do this all the time. I work with one who left for a job the paid double but asked for her job back a week later because she knew the environment was wrong for her.

For you and I $3 million more sounds like a no brainer but when you are making $3-4 million and are already set for life I can totally see turning down that money to enjoy my life more. Enjoyment and freedom is really what I'm trying to buy with money anyway. Kalani could probably work at BYU another 20 years if he wanted and walk away with $50 million by the end of it so if he loves the job the longevity of it has to appeal. Again, with the money he already has he could retire and leave plenty to his kids if he wanted.

$3 million is absolutely enough money to leave for but you are fooling yourself if you think it is a no brainer. There are always other factors.
