The NBA has limitations of what can be done during free throws
I've seen refs stop fans at Jazz games from doing stuff (e.g.: basketball being tossed up while sitting behind the basket) while free throws were being attempted by opposing players.

I like it for free throws. The shooter has plenty of time to collect himself.
