The cop at the center of the Rampart scandal was Rafael Perez, who it is said Denzel Washington's "Alonzo" character in Training Day is based on.

If you remember in Training Day, Alonzo was trying to come up with $1 million to pay off Russian mobsters, which $1 million was the price required for Alonzo beating up or killing a Russian gangster in Las Vegas.

Well, in real life, an expensive trip to Vegas was an actual part of the Rampart scandal.

In 1997, Officer David Mack robbed an L.A. bank of $700,000. After the robbery, Officer Mack and Perez went to Vegas to party and there was a third L.A. police officer with them in Vegas.

That third officer was Sam Martin who is the father of former Remy Martin, former ASU point guard and current Kansas Jayhawk point guard.

Sam Martin's partying ways may be why his son's name is "Remy Martin".
