They should have added 4 of the following: BYU, Oklahoma St, Baylor, TCU, Houston, Texas Tech.
Obviously would have liked it to be BYU among that group, but any set of 4 from that group would expand the PAC12 market and would have effectively destroyed the Big 12 as a competitor.
In my opinion, I think they should have taken BYU (pair as Utah's rival), Oklahoma St (easily best program left in Big 12 and paired as Colorado's rival) and then TCU and Houston (big markets that get a Texas footprint, plus with solid recruiting areas, set as rivals for one another).
But any combo from that group would work, so if there's a school that balks or is a non-starter for some reason, then there's other options and leverage. If you really want Oklahoma St and they don't want to come, they get a lot more interested once they realize that the rest of the conference will be raided.
