Atiki playing time and "weave action"
Getting into the WCC schedule, and especially with these last three games, it's been more important to get Atiki on the floor. We need his length and athleticism and it gives caleb a chance to stay at the 4. The problem is the original weave action we run puts the ball into the hands of the 5 and requires him to make offensive decisions. He's in charge of the hand off, pass for a back door, or rejecting the hand of and reversing the court. Caleb does this well, Fouss is alright but still has bad passes here and there, and Atiki hasn't got it yet. This action also takes the ball out of our senior guard's hands when they are the better decision makers.

Pope and staff have adjusted to this. They still run the weave when caleb and fouss are the 5, but they'll run pick and roll action with atiki, which is much more his speed. He doesn't need the ball in his hands, just set a good screen and roll. It also keeps the decision making with Alex or Te'Jon.

Just last game, they made another adjustment. A weave action with the guards, that turns into a pick and roll with Alex already going down hill. They ran it 3-4 times against USF. I attached a clip bellow (start at the 2:28 mark). The clip cut off the start of the action, but gideon passes to knell, who passes to alex in the weave motion. Alex continues the weave, but gets a screen from the 5 at the top of the key. Alex uses it to hit a three, but he could've drove to the basket or hit the roll man. (There's another example at 3:18)

It's fun to see the staff adjusting the offense to our personnel and I imagine we'll see more adjustments off this in the future.
