My brother has a (kind-of) similar experience.
He owns a restoration company (water, mold, smoke remediation) and has been looking for a technician for months.
A younger Hispanic guy walks into my brother’s office and asks if they’re hiring. Turns out this guy has two years of experience at my brother’s biggest competitor. My brother calls the competitor and finds out this guy was fired for doing burn-outs in the company van. “You’re hired!”
Kid then takes the drug test. Tests positive for weed. “You’re still hired!”
As context my brother had a husband/wife combo who worked for him and finds out they embezzled $250k from him. He sues them. Several months later the wife shoots the husband in the head as he was sleeping.
So yeah, my brother is feeling pretty giddy about his new employee.
