of 26 teams in our Bantam league. All the teams outside of the top 8 played in a consolation game.
We got matched up against his 1st seed American Fork team.
Me, just a Dad coaching, going up against a High School coach who in the previous year I believe had won the state championship.
We both had athletes, we both ran the same 5-out or 4 out 1 in offense. Both teams played man/pack line defense.
Strategically we were the same team. Athletically we were very comparable.
They ran us out of the building. We were never in the game.
He had his team running like a machine. They were so fine tuned. It was humbling for me to be exposed to my weaknesses as a coach.
After the game he pulled me aside. I think he could sense my disappointment. He was so kind and complimentary. He praised my team and pointed out the good that they were doing. He complimented me on our style of play.
Just a really nice guy and a heck of a coach. I was really impressed with him.
He’s doing good things with the youth program in American Fork.
