I just watched the Joe Montana documentary on Peacock. The fourth episode is
all about Steve Young and his battle with Joe Montana. It seems like Walsh really wanted to find a good excuse to bump Montana. Watching it, it seems like Young should have become the starter in 1988, and that Montana was washed by then. But then he won two more superbowls in 88 and 89. I didn't realize that quarterback battle went on for so long. Just looking at the two it seems like Steve Young was the more talented guy. Think about how different Steve Young would be seen if he won those two superbowls in 89 and 90 and then again in 94.
