We can all agree that field goals are already the most exciting part of every football game, so I propose giving fans what they’ve been clamoring for: more field goals!
In OT each team will takes turns kicking field goals starting at 35 yards, and then backing up 5 yards each time until somebody misses. If both teams miss at a given distance, move it 5 yards forward and kick again from there, and then start backing up again until only 1 team misses. Also, each team gets one additional timeout per kick so we can have more of everybody’s favorite part of the game, icing the kicker. They can save these timeouts so they can ice multiple times before any kick using any or all of their remaining timeouts.
Also, unlimited coaches’ challenges that may be used for, among other things, challenges that the other team used an illegal formation, made an illegal substitution, lined up in the neutral zone, flinched pre-snap, or any other possible infraction.
There would be full media timeouts between each kick so we’ll have the added benefit of more advertising revenue for hard-up owners.
I think we can all agree that this will produce both the fairest and most exciting outcomes.
