My parents told me not to bother applying to BYU, so I didn’t. They were right, but it also pissed me off
and motivated me to prove to them I could get into BYU by getting really good grades at Ricks. It worked. I don’t know that every kid will respond well to being told, in so many words, “don’t bother.” To me it said “we don’t believe in you. You’re not that smart.” Hence, why I was pissed off.
