What happened is it’s to much money and hassle to keep up with the shifting
broadcast rights of the games. So I’m now getting old, but when I was a kid in the 80’s all of the major sports were on broadcast TV so you could watch them all. It made it fun to follow the sports seasons. College sports included. The athletes and tv broadcasters were all making plenty of money with this plan.

Then cable was born. More money became available by making the viewers pay for programming and the privilege to watch the ads that once paid for everything else. The scenario keeps escalating where you have to pay for more services and people pay a lot for entertainment. But they’ve traded that for a narrower reach and more people are growing up not caring about it as much.

And, again, I’m getting older. Just don’t care as much.
