one hundred percent worth it to learn how to frame, do drywall etc. Hire out the important things like electric - but you will never regret doing it yourself - especially if you have friends to help teach you and kids that want to help. I did it... got to custom do everything how I wanted and it ran me less than 10k in materials and sweat equity.
