So the cupboard was suddenly even more bare, with mostly just the leftovers from a bad team. Hard to say yet if Smith and Utah will eventually be OK, but he inherited a pretty terrible situation.

And then with that terrible depth, they've also suffered injuries/illness. Which hurts any team (see BYU's lack of bigs), but especially one like Utah that doesn't have much depth or talent to begin with.
