The tour was great, with one glaring omission: There was no mention whatsoever of the famous protest (which I thought was odd, since that's what we know Tiananmen Square for, in the West). I naively asked about it, and the government-employed tour guide kindly but sternly asked me to never mention that again.

Small but significant experience, I thought.
