I don't think this board is mocking anyone that is working hard and trying to better themselves.
There are parts of the 2022 economic world that I really don't care for.

1. To survive when you are 22 most need to be a two income family if you are indeed starting a family. Real estate is too high otherwise in most cities whether you are renting or buying. I paid $600 for a nice two bedroom rental in Las Vegas when I was 23 just 20 years ago. Now it would be at least $1800 for the same apartment.

2. Child care costs are through the roof! There are programs to get around that, but generally speaking child care is expensive.

3. Healthcare is a mess. Hospitals, insurance, doctors, lawyers, patients, government (a big piece here) are all to blame. Too much of our income goes to health care. It wasn't this way 50 years ago.

But it isn't all bad for people entering the workforce:

1. Access to high paying jobs is at an all time high based on what I can see. Even the lower paying jobs are at a much higher wage. I started making $4.25 when I entered the workforce almost 30 years ago (yes I'm old). Today in my state it is now like $12.50 and will be $15 here before too long. So while real estate is far more expensive minimum wages are also far higher. For someone entering the workforce that is good (yes it presents other problems I personally am not to fond of, but for someone entering the workforce it is good).

2. In my experience if you are willing to work and be a good employee you can move up very quickly. Heck even if you want to work at McDonalds and show up on time you can make money as a manager or shift supervisor within a year or two that was not realistic in my day.

3. Taxes are further skewed to the rich than I have ever seen. You can make $80,000 or more as married filed jointly and not pay any federal income tax.

4. If you are indeed struggling the amount of programs for low income housing, food stamps...etc are as comprehensive as I have ever seen them. I wish we would go more towards a self reliant strategy where it is more towards these members working towards being self reliant, but I am glad we are able to help people in times of need. It is certainly needed and makes society better.
