Vaka was a high 3 star with offers from Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M, Michigan, Penn St and LSU... who ended up taking a walk-on spot at BYU (initially, he then left). It's not because he really wanted to go to BYU, so passed up the scholarships, it's because offers fell through.
Another similar story is Adarrius Harshaw, a high 3 star WR who was committed to Utah for a while. He decommitted and there was a lot of noise here that Utah's recruits we're abandoning them, but in retrospect it looks like the offer was pulled, since Harshaw ended up signing with Austin Peay.
