Python is much faster than R. When it comes to loading large datasets, it makes a huge difference.

R still has its advantages--it has an infinite number of libraries more tailored to advanced statistical analysis--far more than Python, and possible better graphical capabilities. But nothing will stop people from creating more modules for Python either. I would be sad to see R go.
