Finally went to turn on my irrigation water and the valve is completely rusted
shut. I soaked it in WD-40, still no go. The handle bent under slight pressure trying to open it. I then tried to loosen the nut on the bolt above the handle. Again with light pressure, the bolt actually snapped off at the height of the handle.

When I opened the box, there was dirt covering most of the valve and the pipe wasn't even visible. The dirt was damp. I dug out all the dirt around the valve and wasn't able to detect any obvious leaks. I'm not sure why the dirt in the box would be damp.

I'm at a loss as to my next step. I can't turn on the water and it's frankly probably past time to start watering the lawn. The valve box is actually located in the side pad of my driveway that runs along the side of the garage. Any sort of work that can't be done directly in the box would require breaking out a section of the cement pad.

Help me Cougarboard, you're my only hope!
