Among the most important points is that UPST is not a bank, but when they enter a new vertical they have to track payments for a couple of years so their AI can learn payment patterns of borrowers. They recently entered the auto loan market so they are carrying a a few hundred million dollars of loans as they had planned but apparently did a lousy job of articulating that and preparing the market.
