Does anyone remember the business school where you had to read one book per
semester?

Not sure if they still do that or not. But when I was there, I was working at the office where you came in to sign up for books so I got an early peek at some of the available books and decided which one I wanted to read. It was in the mid-90s. My manager in the office told me I wasn’t allowed to choose the one I did and told me I had to read the one called “Driven to Distraction” or else I couldn’t work there anymore. (If you don’t know, it is one of the first books about ADHD to really gain traction.)

As it turns out, within a couple of weeks I was over in the office for services for students with disabilities meeting with the doctors there. I showed up to my appointment and checked in, but the lady looked really confused. The rest of the conversation went like this…
Her: Are you sure it was today?
Me: Yes.
Her: Weird. Dr Call doesn’t have any appointments today. Let me check the schedule.
Brief pause.
Her: Oh, here it is. Looks like your appointment was actually yesterday.
Me: Crap. I am such a (r-word). (As I hit my forehead with the palm of my hand. And it was the 90s so the word wasn’t as offensive then.)
Her as she was literally jumping over the desk to give me a hug: Don’t worry about it. It could happen to anybody. There is no need to be so hard on yourself.
Me looking around at people missing limbs, eyesight, etc. and just wanting to get out of there: Ok. I gotta go. I will call another time to get a new appointment.

While I did get special accommodations at the testing center, the Dr. pretty much laughed in my face when I asked him for a handicapped parking pass. He didn’t buy my argument that since it had disorder in the name, it warranted a parking spot.

Where do I go get my settlement?
