Didn’t know much about Fenn’s treasure and it’s finding but this post made me dig a little - it’s pretty fascinating
Re: they had found the spot where Fenn’s treasure had been buried. It was found a few years back but all the crazies looking for it never stopped searching for where it was found.

I remember hearing about it initially and a handful of times afterwards. If you didn’t know or forgot like me, here’s the quick summary.

In 2010 an eccentric old retired antiques collector and millionaire named Forrest Fenn published a book named The Thrill of the Chase. In it, he talks about a bronze treasure chest filled with over a million dollars in gold and other “treasure” that he has hidden. He includes in the book some vague clues as well as a poem on where to look for his treasure.

The book brought out the crazies and fellow eccentrics like moths to the flame. There were people whose lives became obsessed with finding the chest. Over the years, there were thousands of theories, including many who believed there was no treasure. Those who looked for it ended up in all sorts of predicaments, including 5 who died in precarious places. Many marriages were ruined and many filed bankruptcy. It became the sole purpose of many.

A couple of years back Forrest sent out a message that his treasure had been found. No details were included. Many thought it was another part of a grand scheme and ploy. He ended up dying somewhat unexpectedly a few months later.

The guy who found it eventually came forward. He had remained anonymous for a while. He included a picture of the box where he found it and a few other clues to let the obsessed community who worshipped the treasure know that it was real and it had been found.

The finding of the box lead to many treasure seekers with vacuums in their lives. They didn’t know what to do. They had devoted many thousands of hours to finding it, and now that it had been found, what would they do with their time?

Pretty interesting stuff just as a study of the people that were searching for that something special in their lives.

Look it up on YouTube and there’s a ton. This was a pretty good 27 minute piece from the New Yorker on the found treasure and a few people that had looked for it.
