CoSprings is still below 6,000 feet. Cali has amazing mountains. As for Utah,
I'm not talking about the technical term of prominence, but more of how prominent the peaks are (how high they rise off the valley floor). Any one range isn't going to have more than a couple of technically prominent peak. The big peaks in the wasatch are above 11,000 feet, and do so off of a valley floor that is between 4 and 5 thousand feet (SLC is 4226 and the Twin Peaks are 11,483 for reference). Pikes Peak is actually really awesome in the Springs as you can see 14,000 feet from the valley floor at just under 6,000.
California has some killer prominent peaks, and the range of light is by far my favorite in the US. With that said, very little is anywhere near any sizeable cities.
I just feel the Wasatch has the most impressive (elevation off the valley floor, craginess, cool looking) mountains from any metro area in the United States by far.
Regardless, there are plenty of mountains east of the Springs that are higher than the Springs. A few of them are very cool. Most are what we would call big green hills 😉
