I’ve helped move a lot of people with a “nice” house and “nice” stuff.
Most of the “nice” stuff was junk that no sane person would pay to ship across the country, but for some reason is comfortable with the idea of paying to move it themselves instead of just selling it and buying something new when they get to where they were going.

The stuff he’s moving would need to be worth between $15k-20k to make sense to move (and that’s assuming the time spent packing, wrapping, boxing, loading/unloading isn’t worth anything), and I haven’t participated in many moves where the stuff being hauled across the country was worth that much (talking furniture and household items, not expensive electronics or jewelry). Again, it’s usually all junk that people don’t want to part with rather than anything worth moving.

So yeah I say sell all the stuff you possibly can, pocket the cash generated and what you would have spent moving it, and then enjoy having brand new furniture at your new location for very little net cost.
