He isn’t going to take them to the promised land on the strength of his arm, and they feel like they no longer need a lightning rod to change the team’s culture. If you followed the season closely, you’d see that they set him up to fail so that they could have fan support when it came time to move him. Mission accomplished, I guess. By calling everything from his talent to his character into question and then signing 3 other QBs this off-season, they completely tanked his value—but at least they’ll be able to move off him.
Ironically, they’re getting rid of the first QB to take them to the playoffs in 20 years, and replacing him by overpaying for a ~10/32 talent under investigation for all kinds of sexual indiscretions.
They deserve everything they’re going to get.
