and getting far fewer tickets (or at least that has been the CB assumption). How about this for TH as a negotiation position? Okay ND you are breaching your contract to play in Provo. I will give you a neutral site game in Las Vegas provided everything is even, including a 50-50% split of the tickets. And you still pay us the higher of the penalty for failure to play in Provo or the usual fee to play as the other Shamrock opponent.
There is nothing that says BYU must be the ND Shamrock series opponent. That is ND's affair and problem. Frankly, if the Irish made this a take-it-or-leave deal, then let them breach and pay us the $2M breach penalty. The Covid season was clearly the season to push ND hard to give us the return game. TH failed to make that happen. An extra million to play as the away team in Vegas with fewer tickets is poor negotation. We pay FBS schools a ton to be sacrificial lambs for BYU. An extra million is pocket change in today's high stakes world of college football and not worth rolling over for a heavily favorable accomodation for ND. Hopefully this is the last hit we have take as a consequence of going Indy.
