Take melatonin + benadryl when your flight starts and try to get a few good hours of sleep in. I was quite tired by the end of my first day but adjusted just fine.
Other things worth seeing in London — British museum (Rosetta Stone, mummies, tons of amazing artifacts), British library (Magna Carta), Victoria and Albert museum. I really liked the British museum and they're all free to enter.
Borough Market is across the London Bridge and offers that best views of Tower Bridge. It's a 15-20 minute walk from the Tower of London. They have great food options but close at 5pm. I picked up some delicious croissants and other pastries from a teaching bakery for cheap.
I saw The play where everything goes wrong. I was dead tired but it was so funny it kept me awake.
What's the cost difference for a train to Scotland vs flight? I'd much rather take a flight than sit on a train all day.
We stayed outside Earl's Court. Great location and very easy to get further in to the city.
