Today at the gym I saw 3 people squatting with shoes off in just socks
I’ve noticed that more and more. Is there something to that?

A lot of shoes don’t allow your foot to naturally spread out and stabilize you

That and having a shoe with a big heel shifts pressure to the knee.

It’s to have more push from the ground, but gym insurance isn’t keen on it.

A lot of college S&C guys have players do most of warm up without shoes on.

I've tried it, but the socks always feel like they'll roll on my foot. An old

Their shoes aren’t good for squatting

I squat in slides. I know I shouldn't and I don't care. It feels good

I squat in 5 Fingers. I have found it strengthens my arches.

Did your husband get them for you for Mother's Day?

No, but your mom gave them to me on father's day.

You can add an extra set of plates by squatting barefoot. Try it.

I've starting doing this so that my feet can splay a little because I squat so much freaking weight

Unless your shoe has a flat, hard sole it feels a lot more stable.

For me, it helps me feel like I'm distributing the weight across the foot like

If you aren't squatting in traditional weight lifting/powerlifting shoes then bare feet or socks are best.

I thought it forces the muscles in your ankle to stabilize, making them stronger
