Not necessarily weak and playing all P5 games gives them just as many home games
(and likely more interesting games) as playing conference games. In addition, playing 8 conference games vs 9 games, gives the B12 teams a greater chance at better records overall which could me more bowl eligible teams. Do you think the SEC is stupid by only playing 8 conference games? Better records overall helps the conference look stronger even if they're not.
