That would be pretty intense, even with a rifle in hand. I think the most likely
way of getting injured is being in a situation where you startle the animal vs them hunting you. If they feel threatened, cornered somehow.

I remember as a kid my mom driving the van up a canyon in El Toro, CA where my dad was stationed and something must have startled this mountain lion, because as we rounded a curve suddenly there was this loud bang on the top of our van and as my mom hit the brakes the mountain lion that was on top of the van slid off the top over our windshield and was trying to cling with its claws to the non existent hood before hitting the ground.

We just stared at it as it righted itself. It didn't move for awhile. Than it shook itself and lumbered off down the other side of the road that lead to a marshland.
