Yeah, that would be the danger. Would be walked back like nothing happened, but can't put that genie back in the bottle
Would get super interesting though. It would mean the PAC12 is undoubtedly the stronger conference...but also less stable.
So would PAC12 teams go to the Big12 for likely less money? Or would Big 12 teams go to the PAC12 for less stability? Everything could be on the table, all at the same time.
You could have Oklahoma St and Texas Tech secretly negotiating with the PAC12 to jump there...and at the same time have the Arizona schools in talks to jump to the Big 12. Just absolute chaos
