It's going to get stupid expensive to fly the crew team from Southern Cal to Ohio/New Jersey/Maryland and back.

Just create football/basketball only conferences and put the non revenue sports into tight geographic zones.

They fly on private chartered planes. A 2-hour vs 4 hour flight on a private plane isn’t torture.
