It is all about generational dividing lines. Each generation found their own thing to create that barrier. So for
millennials and gen z the septum piercing has become that iconic thing to establish their generational identity. For gen X it was all about ink when tattoos became really popular, but everyone and their grandma (literally) has a tatt these days and for younger generations multiple ear piercings and even navel jewels were already taken. So here we are. The article below you will read comments from those getting them and it is all the same. "We just want to be different, rebel, be unique just like everyone else." The reality and for them as well as most of us the cut is not about being different, but about being the same. People seek to belong and every rebellious act generationally was not a singular stance by an individual, but a wave created by the next herd up.
