I learned much from McCulloch about Truman. He moved from being an obscure president in my mind to one of the best. Truman ended WWII, made the decision to drop the atomic bombs sparing more bloodshed by allied and Japanese forces and Japanese civilians, put forward the Marshall Plan that saved Europe, established the country of Israel, and much more. All this with a high school education. Truman was a political animal as well. Truman had his faults, but I came away from that read thinking that he was placed by heaven to make some weighty decisions. I also think of Truman's quote that he could not trust a certain politician because he was unfaithful to his wife (Clinton, Trump, et. al.). Truman was also one who knew everyone at the Whitehouse on a first name basis from custodians to the cabinet level; he was aware of people, their stories, and their families.
