Upon hearing that I am an SMC graduate, my new BYU-alum coworker good-naturedly started to rib me about Randy Bennett being annoying, but told me if I want to see real distain, go to this place called Cougarboard. Perusing the site, I don't see any evidence, granted it's not basketball season. Not sure I understand the hatred, if it does exist here. Bennett is an x/o's master and could turn a gangly, two left-footed kid into a serviceable point-guard. Sure he works the refs, but it usually works. Off the court, both your former and current coach call him a great friend and he and his wife have been working with Coach Pope and his wife on setting up bone-marrow testing sites all over, including the BYU campus. Doesn't sound like the kind a guy you can hate...

1.) Its football season. There's plenty of other things to hate right now. Only so much hate to go around. Come back during January and you'll hear a different tune.

2.) He is a great coach, and has a great system. Some of the hate is geared towards how good he is. It is a sign of respect.

3.) He does work the refs. We have other rivals who have previous coaches that also did this. It always rubs us wrong. Especially when it works. it shouldn't work. And Bennett is quite good at that.

4.) He has a constant grumpy face, and has plenty of times refused handshakes post-games especially after loses. He kinda gives off the "poor sport" vibe. Sportsmanship is quite big here.

5.) I had no idea about the bone marrow thing, and that is absolutely fantastic. We can gripe and complain about so many people on here, but its usually tied to their profession. I doubt there are many here that think he is a bad person with no redeeming qualities. Just not fun to play against.

6.) Welcome by the way. Unless you like football, this site will probably be a bit boring for you until November.
