gold medal in '88. The college kids were beat by the Soviets for the first time since we were hosed in '72 by the Soviets. The writing was also on the wall with Yugoslavia that the our college kids would be in for a dog fight going forward. There was such a bitter taste in the mouths of USA basketball that we wanted to prove to the world we were by far the best.

My point is, the 1988 team would have lacked the revenge motive that made the dream team so fun to watch. They literally went there to DESTROY the competition and get revenge.

Subsequent dream teams were never the same. '92 was a unique team and set of circumstances that made it what it was.

A team in '88 clearly wins as well, but lacks the motive and revenge story.
