Friends and coworkers give me crap but I always buy something in the 70k mileage
range and at least 7 -10 years old. One, I've never really cared about vehicles and luckily my wife doesn't really either. It's just a tool to get from A to B. I figure after 7-10 years there's enough data to determine with make/model were lemons or not.

I had an old 95 Tacoma and a 91 Camry in college. My friends with new vehicles always seemed to be having issues just outside the warranty period. Even if it was inside the warranty some would be taking it back 2-3 times after the dealership couldn't quite fix the issue. My vehicles were easy to work on and reliable. Both those vehicles made it 250k miles with no major repairs needed.

After I got in a life position to buy new I still decided not too. I bought a 2005 Honda CRV in perfect condition with 75k miles about 2 years ago for my commuter. A retired couple in their 90's had towed it behind a 30+ ft RV for 15 years but were in poor health and weren't going to travel anymore. Gave them $5000 in cash and I love that stupid vehicle. No doubt they figured I was buying a first car for my teenager..
