the best defensive teams consistently get pressure on the QB. BYU rarely gets sacks, and doesn't get consistent pressure on the QB either. Too often the opposing QB has time to calmly survey the field and pick out an open receiver or a lane to run in.
Seems to me that the key is to be proactive on defense instead of reactive. Obviously, that's an oversimplification, but if your MO as a defense is to be reactive, you're letting the offense dictate the action and that's never a good thing.
