The argument in favor of preventing UCLA from joining Big 10 is strong. It does
appear to be a bad move for them on multiple fronts.
Now if the PAC 12 disintegrates, then it becomes a more defensible move, although at that point the Big 12 will still be a closer geographical fit for them.
